Valuable items left inside a unit

Just opened a unit that was way past due which is over 120 days! Found brand new stuff inside. maybe 6 unopened TVs, a fridge, and tons of other things still in their original packaging. My guess is it's worth around $7k.

I've followed all the legal steps,sent out certified letters and everything, but no response from the renter. Before I list it on a bid site, should I be worried about any of this turning out to be stolen goods? Anyone had a similar experience?

It's smart to be cautious, if the items seem suspiciously high-value and untouched, maybe run the serial numbers or contact local law enforcement just in case

You concern is completely understandable!
It's highly unlikely these are stolen goods in a way that would create liability for you, unless you have direct knowledge or a very clear reason to suspect theft.
But as long as you've diligently followed all the legal steps for abandonment and lien enforcement, you're generally protected.
You're simply enforcing your right to recover unpaid rent, not investigating the origin of the items.

Agree with them. If everything's been documented and you followed procedure, you're probably fine. That said, I'd still run the serials just to cover your bases.

get in touch with local law enforcement just to let them know what you have found and see if anything matches up with their reports.
